Performance #1
Happy Fourth of July!
Today's main event for me was a gig at the Landmark College in Putney, VT. It's about 20 minutes from Brattleboro so it was nice not to have to travel so far. It was a small show with Serenity, Elsie, Bill, Tony and myself. We set up the free standing rig indoors on the basketball court which they had covered in tarps. That was fine until we realized that the rig was sliding out on them. This of course wasn't until after I did my trapeze piece for the first time and when I beat under the bar, my feet hit the ground...not so cool. I was supposed to do contortion but alas, I am not ready yet. Bill and Serenity did their acro piece, Tony did his 3-ball and dinner of death acts, Elsie did solo fabric and the twins finished with their Dos Chicas duo trap act.

It was fun hanging out with them. I learn a lot about rigging and gigging with them. I also get to know them better as people and instead of just teachers. I got to use a Genie for the first time at this gig. I used it to detach some pull away lines about 100 ft up. The thing was a little frightening but fun none the less. I really wish I had gotten a picture of me up there but I didn't =(

Serenity & Elsie: Dos Chicas Calientes!
The first audience was a bunch of high schoolers who were taking classes at the college over the summer. They weren't the best audience ever but they were ok. It was really weird being in front of that many high school aged kids. It really made me realize how far I've come since that time in my life (even though it isn't that far back in my past). The second audience consisted of 23 people (I counted) of varied ages. They were a much better audience which was nice to end on. That basically took up the majority of my day.

I had gotten a call from my friend Alex that her camp was having a fourth of July party and that she wanted me to come and meet her Lithuanian friends. So I booked it over there after the gig (stopping at DD on the way because she said there would only be a bunch of meat). Everyone there was great and very friendly. The older man at the camp came up to me and the first thing he said was "I'm am conservative, in the old way". Shook my hand then left. Not only was I a little weirded out, but Alex was too. He ended up being a really cool guy. Later he said, "Chris, in Lithuania money does not make us rich..Friends make us rich. Now that you are here with us we are richer than before." I was basically adopted. It was awesome ^^ He was also very concerned that I was a vegetarian and kept trying to get an ear of corn for me... he was pretty adamant about it.

Then I busted a nut getting over to Woolley's place so we could meet Suzanne and Britta over at Memorial Park for fireworks. But by the time we got back to the park it was IMPOSSIBLE to get a parking space within a mile of the place. So we went back to my place to see if we could see them. Ends up there's a big ole' house in the way of where the fireworks were so we could only hear it. I was tired anyway so I didn't care. I passed out shortly after.
